A Message From Jon

People ask me why I want to run for state representative and what qualifications I have.

My response is honest and straightforward: I am tired of career politicians in Lansing and Washington telling us what to do and how to do it. It is time to send people to Lansing who have actually worked with their hands and run a successful business. We need less control from the central government and more local control.

I have been self-employed for the past 30 years building custom homes. As such, I have employed dozens of tradesmen and sub-contractors. Together, we have brought millions of dollars into the local economy. I’ve always met payroll and have never gone unpaid for a job, an unheard-of accomplishment in the construction industry.

I am committed to our students’ education, our environment and our economy. These three E’s are intimately connected, and we don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. As an example, the Newaygo County Fire and Command Board, of which I have been a member since the 1990's, has been able to reduce the millage on the taxpayers in the fire district while being able to provide better service.

I want to take these approaches to Lansing to begin Building a Better Michigan. We can and must do more to promote responsible fiscal policy, protect our environment and natural resources, and return local control to local governments and schools.
